Steve Forrest started working in the transport industry in 1991 behind the wheel of a Leyland Super Comet 160 hp turbo single drive prime mover which cost him $2750. Steve operated as a sole trader for the first nine years before deciding to establish the company Forrest Transport Services. The company commenced operating in September 1999. Steve got his first start working for Compress Transport delivering containers and loads of wool. After just three years Steve bought Compress Transport as an ongoing business servicing the existing clients, but continued to trade as a sole trader. During this transition period Steve hired an extra driver called Eric (“Ekka” as everyone calls him), which to this day still drives fulltime for Forrest Transport Services. After ten years in the industry Steve believed there was a gap in the market for a specialised transport company moving of oversize transport loads, in particular structural steel items. It was this vision along with much hard work that has made the company as successful as it is today. Steve continues to run and operate the business today using the same hands on philosophy he did while building the much respected reputation he enjoys today in the transport industry. It’s not unusual to find Steve still behind the wheel towing the same trailer he first started with. Today the company has grown to a fleet including 50 prime movers and trailer combinations and still continues to focus on oversize transport. Steve’s motto is “We go to great lengths for our customers” which simply describes the personal attention he dedicates to every customer he works with.
